College Reading Strategies  is a course that explicitly teaches reading strategies that improve fluency and comprehension of fiction and non-fiction to college freshmen.  Award winning novels and short reading selections are the focus of the curriculum. The course will focus instruction on effective strategies such as identifying text structure and reading strategies that improve fluency and comprehension of fiction and non-fiction.  Reading Strategies that may be taught include the following:  Make Connections, Generalize, Ask Questions, Monitor Comprehension, Determine Importance, Make Inferences, Visualize, Point of View, Compare and Contrast, Reread, Context Clues, Retell, Synthesis, Make Predictions, Evaluate, Adjust Rate, Reflect In Writing, Key Details, Fact and Opinion, Author's Purpose, Summarize, Main Idea, Cause & Effect, Describe, Draw Conclusions, Theme, Setting, Characters, Plot, Problem, and Solution.
